YOUTH GLOBAL MISSION OFFERING
In 2011 the offering collected in the Children’s Globe will support God’s Global Barnyard, a program sponsored by the ELCA. An animal can make a world of difference for a family in need. Animals provide food to eat, fertilizer to grow crops, and offspring to sell at the market. Our globe offering can help a family escape the cycle of hunger and poverty for good.
2011 Donations collected = $521.52

SHAPING THE FUTURE WITH HOPE
ISAIAH is sponsoring a public gathering on Sunday, February 12 for the purpose of furthering our work together to create a racially and economically just Minnesota. Invited guests include Governor Dayton and members of his administration, including Commissioners and Metropolitan Council members, as well as other public officials. A delegation from Galilee will attend. This gathering will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Progressive Baptist Church in St. Paul. For more information, contact Pastor Ralph, Ron Peterson, or Peter Solberg.
DONATE USED CHRISTMAS CARDS
The Altar Guild donated over 500 Christmas candy cane favors in December to the Union Gospel Mission using recycled Christmas cards that were collected from the congregation. The Altar Guild will gladly accept your used Christmas cards that will be crafted into favors for the Union Gospel Mission again next year. Bring them to the church office or give them to any Altar Guild member.
CHRISTMAS FAMILIES
THANK YOU so much to everyone who donated presents or money to our two Christmas families. We had gift certificates to Cub and Target for both families as well as some extra cash. Then each of the nine children got a book and a couple gifts. All presents were delivered on Sunday, December 19 to grateful families. You have been incredibly generous.
UHOMINYI SCHOLARSHIPS
As of November 15, we have received funding for fifteen scholarships. We still hope to find funding for the additional four students we have sponsored in 2011. On December 11 there will be a forum about the companion congregation program between the Saint Paul Area Synod and Iringa in Tanzania. Everyone can discover the wonderful things that are happening in Iringa because of the involvement of the churches here. Thanks for what you all have done!
The scholarship cost will be the same amount of $360 that it has been for the last two years. This amount pays for tuition, room and board, and uniforms for one year. The average family in the small farming community of Uhominyi makes only twenty dollars per month so it is impossible for them to afford even sending one child to secondary school. Most of the students go to Image School which is not terribly far away, but it is too far to walk every day so all students live at the school. You may donate money for an entire scholarship or for a portion. If you would like to donate a full scholarship, the first half (or $180) must be paid by December 1 and the second half by May 1. Checks should be made out to Saint Paul Area Synod.
The entire amount is tax deductible. We are the only source of scholarships for the Uhominyi students. If you know of anyone else who would like to contribute or if you have any questions, please talk to Miriam Peterson. To see the students we currently support, look at their photos on the wall in the Fellowship Hall.

The Alley Shoppe is open to receive donations on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to noon from September through May.
Alley Shoppe's greatest needs are silverware, dishes, glasses, kitchen items, towels, bedding, and clothing.
The Alley Shoppe is located in Arlington Hills Lutheran Church on Jessamine and Greenbrier on the East Side of St. Paul. Receipts are issued for your tax records.

FARE FOR ALL EXPRESS
FOOD PROGRAM
Times are such that most (if not all) of us look for ways to save money, and Fare for All Express is a way for us to save money on food each month. It is a non-profit program that uses volume purchasing power to offer fresh fruits, vegetables and frozen meats at prices 30-40% below typical retail costs. There is no qualifying, it is open to all. For more information check out the flyer on the Fare For All Web site.
HEALTH MINISTRY IN GUATEMALA
In July, Pastor Ralph and Katherine continued their Guatemala Health Ministry mission service. They traveled to Guatemala City to be with many of the members of La Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG).
Katherine Baumgartner contributed an article about the Health Ministry in Guatemala for the Summer 2010 issue of the ILAG (La Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala) Companion Newsletter.
